Work-at-Home Scams - Don't Become a Victim

The ads are so tempting, and just think -- what if you could make hundreds of dollars a day working from home? Unfortunately, people are losing money every day to work at home scams. Don't become a victim. Here are some ways to make sure you don't become scammed!

You know you're just about to get scammed by a work-at-home ad when...

· The very first line states you can make hundreds of dollars a week working from home.

· There is no experience needed.

· You can work just a few hours a week and still make a bundle of money.

· There is lots of CAPITALIZATION AND !!!!!! used in the ad.

· You read an extremely vague ad. You haven't a clue what the business is about; but boy, could you be making the bucks.

· You're asked to call a 900# for more information.

· For a fee, a company will send you a list of businesses that are looking for home workers.

· You are forced to make a decision immediately and are made to feel stupid if you say no to their offer.

How to Check A Company Out

Whether you have those funny feelings about the claims of a company or not, do some background research on them.

· Hire a lawyer. This may seem like a waste of money, but in the long run it could really save you some financial heartache.

· Call the Better Business Bureau (in the state the company resides in) to see if there have been any complaints against the company.

· Ask the company if you can talk to any of their happy customers. Please be aware that companies can and will give you false customers to talk to. If these people sound way too happy, I would be a little leery.

Questions You Should Ask If You Are Thinking About Buying A Business Opportunity

Find out from your sponsor, in writing, what is involved with this business; such as: Are you able to return merchandise if it doesn't sell? Is there a money back guarantee? How long have they been in business for? (if it's under a year, I would again be very leery). What is your total cost of this business opportunity, including fees, supplies, and equipment? Will you be paid on salary or commission and how often and who will pay you? Ask the program sponsor to write down every step of the business.

What To Do If You Become The Victim Of A Scam

First you need to write the company that you feel has ripped you off telling them you would like your money back. If they don't agree with you, then you need to let them know you plan to notify officials. The following people should be notified:

· If you read about this work-at-home scheme in a magazine, let the editor know you've been ripped off by these people and you're not happy about it.

· The Attorney General's Office in your state or in the state where the company is located.

· National Fraud Information Center. Call them if you feel you are a victim of a "get-rich-quick" or an "easy money" scheme. Check out their web site for daily alerts or new scams. 1-800-876-7060

· Your local Consumer Protection Offices.

· Your local Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the BBB in the state of the scammer.

· Postmaster. Notify if you received the information through the mail.

· The Federal Trade Commission. While the FTC cannot resolve individual disputes, the agency can take action if there is evidence of a pattern of deceptive or unfair practices. To register a complaint, write to: Correspondence Branch, Federal Trade Commission, Washington, DC 20580.

Staying At Home Or Working- Which Is Best For You

Most mothers struggle with the question of whether to stay at home with their children or work. If you’re trying to make that decision, you know that it can be very difficult, because there are advantages and disadvantages to both sides. Here are some things to consider when making your decision.

Can you afford to stay home?

This one seems obvious, but the question requires consideration. There are costs associated with working, such as child care, gas, wear and tear on your car, clothing, lunches and parking. Deduct these expenses from your paycheck and see what’s left. Next, look at other expenses you can cut. Would it be worth it to you to cut back on vacations and luxuries like cable television if it meant you could be home? If you didn’t have a commute to work, could you settle for a less expensive car? Once you’ve examined all the alternatives, you can make a better decision about how staying home will affect you financially.

Will you be happy at home?

Some women stay home because they feel like it’s the best thing for their children, even though they are personally much happier working. If you are unhappy at home, this will have a negative effect on your children, so you shouldn’t force yourself to stay home if it isn’t where you want to be.

Will you be miserable if you go back to work?

Conversely, mothers who truly want to be home with their children, but go to work each day just because the paycheck is a necessity are not getting the best from their life, either. If you fall into this category, maybe it’s time to examine a career alternative that might be a good compromise. Could you cut your hours? Could you telecommute at your present job, or find a job that would allow you to work out of your home? Fortunately, today’s employers offer more alternatives in hours and work environment that make balancing your work and home life a little easier.

Remember that the decision you make is not necessarily permanent. Your financial situation could change, as could your personal preferences about working. I have personally done it both ways, and neither is a walk in the park. They are just hard in different ways, and which one works better for you is mostly a matter of your own personal style.

The "What and "Why" of Working at Home

To work at home seems to be the "Dream of Our Time". For women, in particular, it provides a way to combine motherhood with earning an income, without sacrificing time with the family.

There are several ways to work from home so we can be with our children during the day. Two things to bear in mind when deciding to be a home-based working mum are:

1. What business do I choose?

2. My "why" for doing it?

The first thing to consider when choosing a home business is that you must enjoy it. If you like to party then perhaps the Party Plan companies are worth a look. If you have a flair for make-up, there are the cosmetics companies. Nutrition and weight control, special gifts, home-wares, even lingerie – the opportunities are endless.

Do you want to work face-to-face with people or by phone? Perhaps you just want to work online, maybe a combination of these.

However you choose to work, there is something for you.

As mentioned before, the main point to consider is that whatever you choose to do - ENJOY IT! If you've decided to venture into the "home business world" take a while to really ponder just what kinds of things you enjoy and build on that. Once you get started, whether you're making a lot of money or a little, you'll reap benefits you never expected.

The skills and talents you already possess will be heightened and new strengths and abilities will be discovered. You will find yourself learning new things and gaining new skills. And if, for some reason, you ever feel a need to re-enter the workforce, those new and heightened skills will be a powerful advantage.

Equally as important to your decision to work from home is your reason for doing it - i.e.: your “Why”. Is your why to be with your young children during the day instead of dropping them off at the Day Care Centre? Perhaps your why is a different lifestyle, a money issue or a combination of many.

Whatever your why is, it is the driving force behind what you do in your business. It is the reason you start it and the motivation to achieve your goals.

So, to sum up, once you have thoughtfully explored WHAT business you want to work from home and WHY you are doing it, you have endless opportunities and myriads of choices at your feet.

Of course, it goes without saying that due research into any business must be undertaken before a final decision is made. However, even while researching a company, your skills of discernment and decision-making are being tested and honed.

When you finally know that you have found the business that's right for you, there's just one more thing to do.... GO FOR IT!!!!

To your success... Cheers.

Work at Home Moms (WAHM’s) and Podcasting

The biggest challenge for any work-at-home Mom is to present their business in a professional manner to potential clients or customers. On a daily basis, WAHM’s strive to present a positive image of themselves and their business.

How can a work-at-home Mom promote this positive image? A great way to accomplish this goal is through podcasting. It has been said that the greatest advertising for any business is positive word-of-mouth. The best way to accomplish this goal is with podcasting because it gives you a voice.

Podcasting allows WAHM’s to share their expertise, knowledge and even personality with potential clients. If you decide to podcast, you will be promoting your business in the best way possible.

When a possible client or customer listens to your podcast, they will hear your voice. As a result, they will develop a bond and trust in you over time. Subsequently, this will build more customers for your business.

When you are doing your podcast, don’t be afraid to share too much knowledge. If you hold back information, this could potentially hurt you and the image that people will have of your business. Your potential customers or clients will judge you based on the information that you share in your podcast. Thus, the most important element is to share valuable information.

An important element to keep in mind is that your podcast should not be an entire commercial for your business. If you do this, people will be turned off and they will turn off your podcast. You should strive to share helpful information with your audience. As a result, they will appreciate your sincerity and integrity. It is perfectly acceptable to share all of your business and contact information with your audience at the end of your podcast.

As a work-at-home Mom who is podcasting, you will build positive name recognition within your particular niche. The audience will look to you as an expert within your particular field. Consequently, this is the greatest promotion for any business.

The ultimate goal is to stand out above your competition. Is your competition podcasting? They are probably not podcasting and don’t realize the tremendous positive impact that this could have on their business.

When you record your podcast, it is imperative that you don’t have any background noises (children, pets, television, radio, etc.) This could potentially distract your listeners and they might turn your show off. Your goal is to present the best possible image that you can to potential clients.

As a WAHM, professionalism is critical to your success. Podcasting can be the greatest element for your business if it is done in the appropriate manner.

If you take the necessary steps to produce a professional podcast with valuable information, you will see an increase in clients and customers over time.

Work At Home - You Have To Look Beyond The Glamour

The choice of work at home opportunities is vast and varied. There will be obvious pros and cons attached to all of them but there is a third aspect that only you will be able to perceive: there will be an indefinable quality that makes one of the thousands of work at home opportunities exactly right for you. The choice of work at home opportunity needs to be made on an emotional level as well as being based on a logical process. You need to spend time investigating the different home business opportunities to be able to pick the one that will suit you perfectly in all respects. It is vital that any such project will make you feel comfortable as well as having good earning potential.

If you approach the task of choosing a work at home opportunity on the basis that you can always dump it and switch to something else, you will be starting your work at home career with a negative attitude that invites failure. I am not talking here about signing up for a free trial of a work at home opportunity. Many work at home programmes offer a free trial to enable you to get an idea of what work at home involves and to get the "feel" of the programme. This sort of courtship is fine, it is part of the investigative procedure. The sort of thing to be avoided is jumping into a work at home programme without making proper investigations or getting to know the programme and without having the belief on an emotional level that you and the work at home programme are compatible.

Choosing your ideal work at home opportunity is similar to choosing your spouse (or partner in life if you insist on political correctness). If you rush into a relationship without first getting to know the other person, you will be likely to find yourself suffering from a bad case of repenting at leisure. The good looking, glamorous character with the flashy car who promises fun and excitement might seem like a good choice at first but you need substance to back up the superficial attributes. When you get up close and personal, you might find that the good looker is unintelligent, frivolous and is being pursued by a credit company for payments on the flashy car.

The promise of fun and excitement might be attractive but it is always best to get to know each other before becoming seriously involved. For a relationship to succeed there needs to be a deep emotional response, not just a passing fancy. A work at home career will make demands on your time and energy, it will not always be a pleasure. In order to achieve success you will require patience, persistence and commitment. Giving up at the first obstacle and flitting from one work at home programme to another will result in serial disappointments and inevitable failure. Instead of having a successful home business with a growing profit margin, you will find yourself back working for someone else with nothing to look forward to except the same sort of measly pay cheque that made you want your own business in the first place.

Don't automatically reject the boy/girl next door type. The producers do not make all those movies on the subject for no reason. People really do travel far and wide searching for a soul mate only to return home and notice their goofy childhood buddy has shed the braces, become gorgeous and wants to be more than best friends. If looks were the deciding factor in a relationship, no ugly person would ever get married. Millions of kind and loving people would be doomed to a solitary, unrewarding life and that is just too sad to contemplate. Don't bypass the work at home opportunity that has been around for ages and looks too safe and sensible to be interesting. There will be reasons why it has been around for so long and you will very likely discover that it has hidden depths. Honesty and stability are more important qualities than good looks or promises of excitement and will last longer.

The desire to be your own boss with your own home based business is a strong force. Don't permit it to influence you into making a rash choice. Of course, you want to make the best income available to you, but that is not the only consideration: you need to have a passion for your home business if you are to succeed. If you have any doubts about a work at home opportunity when you start out, in a short time you will feel like one of the ugly sisters trying to fit into the glass slipper. You will fare much better if you remain patient for a little longer until you find your Prince of work at home opportunities. You do want a happy ending, don't you?

Is Your Family Really Benefiting When You Work at Home?

by: Stephanie Foster

You’ve beaten the obstacles and found a way to work at home, whether by finding a job or starting a home business. But is your work getting in the way of time with your family? It may be time to make sure you are finding balance between working at home and your family.

Let’s take a look at some easy things you can do to ensure that you are spending time with your family.

1. Make time for play. Family activities are a great way to relax away from work. It can be as simple as taking a walk or going to the park, or it could be a full day excursion to a museum, amusement part or beach. You don’t have to leave the house, of course. You could play games, make cookies or do other fun activities around the house. The point is to simply have fun as a family and have time to talk to each other.

One way to start is to plan a family night. Tell everyone they have to be home on a particular evening each week and do things as a family. Even if you just rent a movie to watch together, it’s something you’re doing together.

If you’re married, make sure you plan a regular date night with your spouse. Frequency may depend on how old your children are and how often you can get babysitting, but it is important for your marriage to have time as a couple.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have fun with your family. Just make time for fun.

2. Be there for your children’s activities. If your children are involved in sports, acting, singing or other activities, make sure you are there for all the games, performances or other important events. It will help your children to know that they are very important to you.

3. Set rules and enforce them. If your children understand when they can interrupt your work you will be able to get more done in less time, giving you more time for your family.

Of course, you need to be consistent. If kids get away with breaking the rules some of the time, they will test the rules often. Consistency will save you time in the long run, even if you aren’t sure you want to spare the time at a particular moment.

4. Pay attention to what kind of attention each child needs. Every child is different. Some demand attention while others are so quiet it’s easy to forget that they need you too. Make sure you spend time with each child as an individual.

5. When the kids come home from school, take some time to talk about their day. They will appreciate your interest. You should also make sure they understand their homework and start it at whatever time they do best at finishing it. Some do best starting homework immediately on getting home, while others do better if they can play for a while first. Be aware of your child’s needs.

6. If your work is something the children can help with, let them be involved. If not, you can still at least talk to them about what you do. This sets a good example for your children by helping them to know what working is really about. It’s easy to get buried in the needs of your work when you work at home. A little bit of planning can go a long way toward making working at home a wonderful experience for all. Your family is why you decided to work at home, so don’t let your time with them get put aside.
