The Biggest Work at Home Pitfalls Revealed!

"The secret of success is to know something nobody else knows."

When you decide to build a career online, or feel that the time has come to start your own business, there are a few major pitfalls which you should try to avoid. I've outlined the most important ones to give you a head start. This way you will probably save a lot of time in the process.

Make sure that you take it serious, whatever kind of Work at Home idea you might have, promise yourself to fully commit yourself to it. There is no way to succeed with anything on line or off line, if you're not prepared to give it all you've got.

Don't expect anything to happen overnight. For any home business, or traditional business for that matter, to become successful you need to invest time and find the capability to be patient. There will be ups and downs, moments of glory and moments of despair. You have to invest in a learning process to improve your skills and in the end reap the rewards.

Stay focused on your goals, write down a list of things you want to achieve with your work at home idea. Once you have written your list you can break it down in sort of assignments.

Let's say that one of your goals is making $2.000,- a month. Start coming up with steps you need to take to achieve this goal. If you can't work these steps out yourself, there will always be a person in the same field of expertise who you can find to give you advice.

After you have done the above and started your new career, you should track your progress at all times. This way you can pinpoint when things work and when they don't work. Try to focus on the things that don't work first and bend them around. A lot of fine tuning might be needed to get the whole process to run smoothly.

A final word of advice, don't let anybody or anything keep you from your goals. If to you it is worth fighting for, then you should be ashamed not to fight. Not fighting for your own future will end up with a never to be answered question. What if? Me personally, I don't want that question hanging above my head the rest of my life. Take action and enjoy the ride.

Using the above guidelines are intended to help you to keep a clear picture of what it is you actually want to achieve.

10 Tips On Working At Home With Young Children

Working at home can be stressful, especially with small children in the house. Where is the balance between work and home when home IS work? Here are some suggestions to help both you and your kids make the most of each day at the home office.

1. Try to get up at least an hour before the children. This gives you some quiet time to assess your daily priorities, stretch your body and mentally and physically prepare for the day ahead. This is YOUR time. It is of the utmost importance. Meditate at least 10 minutes in the morning. Visualize your day going smoothly.

2. Make sure that your children have your full attention when they first wake up. Give them hugs and kisses. Make them breakfast. Enjoy some snuggling and laughter. These are precious times that will not always be here. Give your children the gift of being present in the mornings.

3. Develop a routine with your kids. Keep your schedule essentially the same every day, but don't be a slave to the clock. Each morning, set up a selection of fun things for them to do that will keep them happily entertained such as crayons and markers, table toys, play dough, watercolors or a small indoor sandbox with digging toys.

4. If you can afford it, hire a nanny or a school aged mother's helper to come into your home for just a few hours a day to play with and attend to your children. This gives you total solitude at least for an hour or two, even if only a few times a week.

5. Don't devote a set block of time to your work each day. Instead, have certain objectives, such as "I will work for 4 hours today." Work during nap time. Sneak a few minutes during lunch or whenever the children are happily playing.

6. Allow for some flexibility, but don't just abandon your work if the kids are not cooperating. You can be creative. Take them outside for a while. Let them be active with you and they will most likely give you the downtime you need to get some work done later on.

7. Let the kids help with small tasks. Let them staple, paper clip and help you "sort" or cut. They may not actually be assisting you with your work, but they will enjoy it and it makes them feel important, as if they are helping Mom with her work. Be sure to thank them for their help.

8. Try to save things that can be done after hours, such as internet work, filing, paperwork, checking emails etc. for when they have gone to bed. You will find that an hour of quiet working time will enable you to catch up on your day.

9. Stay in the present moment. If a kid needs a hug or some juice, don't put them off or push them away. Remember the reason we wanted to work at home in the first place? So we can spend more time with our families. Give the hug...get the juice. Do it lovingly and be grateful for the opportunity.

10. Enjoy the journey! Life is too important to waste being stressed out about your business. Our children, their happiness and comfort are far more important that our business. The little things will take care of themselves when we are in the frame of mind to enjoy what we are creating for ourselves.

Work At Home Mothers - Are You Going Through A Difficult Phase

Are you enjoying the experience of being a work at home mother, or are you going through a difficult phase? When you have children, you will nurture them through various phases, some testing and some irresistibly cute, but there is one phase that I reckon is the biggest reason for mothers to give up the idea of being a work at home mother and go back to the wage slave routine.

If you didn't start a work at home project before the birth, the next best time to do it is when your baby is between 1-3 months old. For the first month you will be too tired, too busy and too involved in getting accustomed to your new role as a mother. It gets easier from then on. During the first three months your baby will settle into a routine and you will be able to plan your day around that.

At 3-6 months your baby should still spend a good deal of the day sleeping and this will leave you quite a bit of time to streamline your work at home timetable.

At the 6-9 months stage, your baby will be awake more and more but will be able to amuse itself for short periods in between feeding and sleeping. This is a good time to introduce your baby to your home workplace so he or she will feel part of your working day. Don't exclude your child from your work area, otherwise he or she will grow up resenting the time you spend there and will compete for your attention.

By about the age of 18-24 months your baby becomes a small person who will be perfectly happy playing quiet games or looking at picture books while you carry on working, just having you nearby is enough during this stage of growing independence.

Did you notice I missed something out? I decided to save the 9-18 month stage for last. Remember, I said it gets easier after the first few weeks? Well, that's true - apart from this stage! It's just a phase, it doesn't last forever but it will feel like forever while you battle through it. I wouldn't want to put anyone off parenthood or working at home; they are both great but each of those situations becomes difficult verging on impossible during the 9-18 month stage. Parents who said "We won't let having a baby change our lives." start to look a bit embarrassed and pretend they never made that ridiculous statement in the first place.

If you think of your work at home mother career as a journey, this is not the end of the road, it is a very steep hill you need to conquer before you can cruise down into the peaceful valley ahead. By the time this phase hits you, you need to have your home job organised and running to a schedule. This is the phase that will test the flexibility of that schedule to the extreme. Be prepared, this phase does not creep up gradually, it slams in unannounced overnight.

Remember that cute helpless little gurgling bundle with the rosebud mouth? It now stays awake most of the day and you suddenly find you have your very own weapon of domestic destruction. As soon as that little bundle masters the art of rolling over, it is time to move any fragile objects to higher ground, rearrange cupboards according to child safety rather than logic or convenience, install safety gates, special locks, socket covers and take a million other precautions. (Tip: a lock on the toilet lid is only unnecessary if you don't mind finding your toothbrush or shoes in the toilet.)

Yes folks, mobility has arrived and baby's reach is extending daily. Progress from rolling over to rolling across a room, to crawling happens like a film shown in fast forward mode. Your most precious fragile possession becomes a standing, climbing, falling over, head bumping, dangerous object seeking, inquisitive, noisy adventurer who has an aversion to the playpen. This is a period of exploration and learning that involves your child spending its waking hours in between you and whatever you had hoped to be doing. If you can't do something with a baby in one arm, on your lap or firmly clinging to your legs and shouting, forget it until nap time. A surprising number of things can be done one handed, so most days you will get to eat a snack or drink a glass of juice even if you aren't able to get showered and dressed until noon, but it's pointless to try to give your attention to grownup concerns outside of nap time.

Don't try to fight nature, this is a battle you won't win, so you might as well save your energy and make a compromise. Give your tiny tornado all the attention it needs throughout this phase and fit in your work at home project around it until the blessed time arrives that proper walking is achieved, the vicelike grip on your legs is released and you are no longer the focus of attention. If you can weather this phase without giving up the idea of working at home, you should succeed with the ordinary challenges of running a home business.

This phase is demanding work but it is the time of first wobbly steps, first coherent words and all the other "first" milestones of your child growing up; all the things you couldn't bear to miss, your reason for wanting to work at home in the first place.

Work At Home Scams Thrive on the Internet

The ability to earn a living from home is one that millions of people would enjoy. No one likes being a slave to a time clock, and no one enjoys working for a difficult boss. The notion of working from home is appealing to everyone who has ever had an unpleasant job, and thousands of Americans try their hands at it every year with varying degrees of success.

Where there is opportunity for success, there is also opportunity for fraud, and the work at home sector is no exception to that rule. Offers to work from home are common subjects of spam e-mail, and there are thousands of Websites devoted to lavish descriptions of the riches one can acquire while working from home. Unfortunately, most of these offers are fraudulent, and the only thing that most people will get out of them is a lighter wallet. Offers to get rich at home while stuffing envelopes or processing medical claims for physicians earn far more for the people selling them than they do for the victims who buy them.

These are but two of the common work at home scams that can be commonly found in e-mail solicitations or in the classified advertising sections of business-related magazines. Anyone who is considering investing in a plan to work from home should first consider the following:

You can't get something for nothing. If a company promises that you can make thousands each week from doing little or no work, you should be suspicious.

Do not respond to solicitations that come via e-mail. These messages are literally sent out by the millions in hopes that a few people will believe the offer and send money. Don't do it.

Find out what it is you will do to get paid. Then do some research on your own. Is there a market for the work you will be doing? Look into it.

Research the company involved. Thanks to the Internet, it's as easy as looking them up in a search engine. See what others have to say about the company.

Do you have to invest money? How much? What do you receive? Can you get a refund if you change your mind? Find out.

While there are legitimate opportunities to work from home, most offers to hire people to do so are fraudulent. By doing a little homework before you invest your money or time, you can avoid being another victim of a work at home scam.

Avoiding Work at Home Employment Scams

This article is not aimed at discouraging people from starting Home based business through the Internet, but to guide the people about the Business opportunities available on the net that are bogus and illegitimate. These are more popularly termed as Scams. There are numerous opportunities available on the Internet for starting a home-based business successfully. Some of these opportunities are really success oriented. However all these business strategies require hard work and dedication besides thorough knowledge about the market.

Some of these opportunities are quick and easy way of making money. Before getting involved into any business opportunity through the Internet, people must make themselves cautioned against the fraudulent scams. They should not get carried away by people who try to fool others using fake testimonials, documents, guarantee cards, and offering huge income potentials in short period of time.

There are many reliable work at home jobs on the Internet. These jobs do not claim to give easy money in short period of time. These jobs are based on hard work and open-minded communication between the employers and trusted employees through telecommuting. These jobs are more or less similar to the regular jobs in many ways. The employee must first qualify for the job that is offered. He must then develop trust with the employer through dedicated work. Most of these telecommuting jobs are treated as part time opportunities. Another way of working on the Internet is to work as freelancer or on independent contract. You can work as article writer, consultant, editor, designer and numerous other ways. With all these type of opportunities the risk of getting involved in scams is less.

The Internet business opportunity scams are more common in sales endeavors. The scrupulous people who run the Internet scams are always on the look out for a naïve wishful and desperate surfer. Many homemakers, and elderly people become a prey under these scams. Before getting it to any business option, people must get a thorough knowledge about these scams. They can get all the necessary information from the Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission. These organizations help you to keep away from the Internet based scams and also help to verify the offers on the net and file complaints if necessary. Another way to avoid scams is to start up the home based business after getting the necessary information from the Small business Administration.

It is essential for people to come forward and report the scams however small be the money involved. Scams have proliferated through Internet because of the access to millions of customers. The most commonplace for Internet scams is through the auction sites. Fraudulent merchandise sales sites are on the rise. The scammers try to allure customers by offering hard to find goods such as electronic gadgets. Thousand of shoppers who whisk their money have never received their goods. The people are advised to be skeptical of sites, which offer the goods at incredibly low prices.

Advertising Your Work At Home Business Opportunity

The business world is changing, and we are seeing the rapid rise of people who are wanting to work at home. Some companies are looking to make their employees sub-contractors because they want to pay fewer benefits. The economy and natural disasters have affected others. As a result, more and more people are looking to start a home business of their own.

There probably never has been a greater opportunity to start a home business opportunity than now. With the internet giving access to the world, the possibilities are nearly endless. A store-front is no longer needed, unless you are dealing with a large quantity of product. And because it is in your home, thousands of dollars can be saved each year.

Every business will provide one of two different things to the potential customer. It will be either a product, or a service. But either one must have advertising in order for the customer to know about what you offer. Your work at home business opportunity will succeed or fail based on this one factor. This article will seek to provide some quick ideas about how to advertise your business by using the internet.

Google Adwords

This is probably one of your best promotional tools for every dollar that is spent. This will require some study in selecting the right keywords to use in the Google program. There is a cost per click - every time someone clicks on your ad, you pay a few cents, which is predetermined by you. Although effective, it will take a lot of watching to be able to get it right, and to keep it there.

Submit To Search Engines

Various websites will submit your website information, with your keywords, to multiple search engines. Some sites will submit your information to over 75 search engines - for free. For a rather small fee, this number can be multiplied many times. These will get the word out to the most popular engines, including Google and Yahoo. A number of search engines will take more than three weeks to list your site.

Create A Newsletter

This one will allow you to "get your list" of potential customers. Before you send out any illegal spam, however, it is important to get their approval for you to send them something. This is one way to be able to weekly email your customers - and in most cases, you can do it for free.

Write Free Articles

Write an article on your niche subject (the theme of your web page), and submit it to websites that distribute free web content. If written well, these will be picked up by other marketers and displayed on their site. Of course, you require that your name and website address must remain attached at the bottom. This is free advertising, and it is possible to be posted around the internet.

If you look around the internet, there are many other ways to get the word out about your business. Add some new ones regularly and see what gets the best results.

How To Succeed As a Work At Home Mom

It is heart rending to a new mom when she has to leave her young child in the care of strangers and go back to her job. Consequently, many moms dream of being able to work from home so they can guide their children through the perilous journey from babies to young adults. But how many really consider working at home a serious option? How many moms actually follow thru on their work at home dreams and turn them into reality?

Multi-level marketing programs and work at home schemes have been around for decades, selling everything from detergents to vitamins. It seems that each day several more appear on the scene - Stuffing envelopes, selling real estate, Amway, etc. Do these programs work? Can stay at home moms or dads make a realistic income doing these jobs from home? How does one know which programs are legitimate and which ones are not?

Besides the legitimacy factor, there are the start-up costs. If you want to start a real estate business, or sell vitamins or cosmetics from home, the start up costs will set you back a tidy sum.

Inexperienced or "would be" entrepreneurs tend to start their small home business as a result of attending a meeting or seminar . The offer of help to start a business may be legitimate but many of these businesses still fail. According to the US Small Business Administration, over 50% of small businesses fail within the first year and 95% fail within the first five years. This report suggests that only 5 in 100 small business are slated to succeed. So, it seems that the average small business entrepreneur, is destined to fail if he starts his business without adequate skills, proper guidance or education. Is it any wonder that people have become wary about putting their hard-earned cash into small business opportunities or work at home schemes?

So what is the answer for parents whose entrepreneurial spirit and work ethics are strong? Where can they find legitimate, low-cost, work at home opportunities?

Start an Online Home Based Business.

You can create your own home based business using your computer. There are several legitimate affiliate programs that cost under $50 to join, and if your funding is limited, there are even "free-to-join" affiliate programs.

If you begin by building your own website, it will cost you hosting fees plus domain registration fees. Easy to use website building software is freely available on the Internet, and there are also several ways to obtain a website. You could build it from scratch, start with a template, get one built for you with several affiliate programs ready for you to join, or if you have some money to spend, get someone to build it for you.

Once you have your website, join the affiliate programs of your choice. Affiliate programs or opportunities eliminate the need for inventory, property leases or rent. You are free to concentrate on finding ways to promote and sell the opportunities or products you have chosen to put on your website. It is even possible to sell affiliate products without purchasing them, although I strongly advise you to use as many of your affiliate products as possible. Promoting a product you have used is a hundred times easier than one you have only read about.

Putting a number of banners on your site might be very tempting, and when you are inexperienced, it may seem like the perfect answer. Unfortunately the average online shopper is smart, educated and wants more than a few flashing banners. They want to read about the products and opportunities you are promoting. They want to learn successful online and offline marketing methods that they can duplicate. This means you have to find ways to educate yourself as well as your customers and prospects about the your products, opportunities and the methods that bring you success.

Starting and running an online home based business is much easier and less expensive than the equivalent offline business, but although the cost may be minimal compared to its offline equivalent, a successful home based business will still require that you have good work ethics, dedication and education.

So, moms or parents who want to stay at home with their kids and start their own online home business, can do so with the knowledge that it is not really difficult if one goes about it the right way.

For a tiny investment you can become the President of your own home based business, stay at home with your children and be a vital part of their lives, while you earn more than you ever did working at your job. The pros in this instance far outweigh the cons.

How To Balance Your Home And Business When You Work At Home

Many people desire the ability to work at home. They imagine themselves rolling out of bed, commuting 20 feet without any traffic, except for the occasional pet sleeping in the hallway and starting work in their home office as they sip on their favorite latte. Without the daily office politics, commute, and water cooler gossip they feel they’ll be more focused and, ultimately, more efficient. However, with this freedom come some unforeseen drawbacks that can affect your stress level. You may find it difficult to keep yourself organized and motivated without the pressures of a boss or management team.

When you work from home and not required to clock in and out at a specific time, you are responsible for your own time management. To keep yourself and your home office organized so you are more productive and have less stress, try the following tips:

1. Keep a separate and specific work area in your home. This can be as simple as setting up a large desk and a small filing cabinet in a quiet room. Make sure you have plenty of lighting. Keep it clean and organized so you can find the materials and supplies you need to do your work.

2. Learn how you are more productive. Identify what type of work environment helps you work at your best. Are you more productive when you’re working at your desk or sitting on the couch? Your home office is your domain. Add personal items and things that help give you a positive attitude to help make you more productive.

3. Schedule specific task. Plan your work schedule by identifying your most productive time and when you have the most energy. If you a morning person and think more clearly in the mornings then do your most difficult and important task during this time. If you have children you may want to begin work after you get them off to school, before they wake up or even during their nap.

4. Set your business hours and adhere to the schedule. Just because you work at home doesn’t mean you can take a break whenever you want because there’s no boss to tell you to get back to work. You must be managing your time by setting your business hours and following them, after all you are your own boss. Also, many people or clients may assume since you work from home you are available 24/7. Avoid interruptions by setting specific office hours when other people can contact you regarding business. Communicate this - put your business hours on your business cards, website, e-mails and voice-mail recording.

5. Plan, negotiate and prioritize. No matter how hard you try, your business and personal lives will collide. Don’t stress out when personal interruptions affect your business life. Learn to detach from your work mode, to focus and address the interruption and resolve it so that you can move forward. Then switch back to work mode and get back to your regular work schedule. Eventually, you will learn to weave in and out between business mode and personal mode throughout the day so their can be a productive balance between work and life when you work at home.

Start a Work at Home Jewelry Business

Jewelry making is an ideal way to start earning a little extra money from home. You don’t need to spend a lot to get going. Initially your circle of friends will be your customers. Your friends will tell their friends, who will tell their friends, and so on and so on.

Though you may start with a kit or two for the learning experience, you can’t rely on kits if you want to make money selling your work. People will pay more for one-of-a-kind pieces. Plus, the mark-up on kits is quite high because another artist has done the design work for you. In other words, you can both charge more and keep your costs lower if you design your work yourself. This is how to maximize your profit.

A good place to start is by flipping through magazines and catalogues. Clip jewelry photos that appeal to you, along with price information if available. Get a notebook and fill it with the pictures.

You’re not going to copy them. This is just to give you ideas and get your creative juices flowing. The pictures will also come in handy when you can’t quite figure out how to do something you have in mind – kind of like your own illustrated how-to book.

There are two easy to learn jewelry making methods to consider: beading and wire sculpting, also know as wire wrapping.

Beading requires little skill other than a good sense of design and the materials are inexpensive.

Wire sculpting or wire wrapping is not that much harder to learn, but since you are dealing with gold, silver and genuine gemstones, the materials cost a bit more. But the markup is much higher.

Tools and Materials

Here’s a list of tools you will need to start:

1. Jewelers’ wire cutters - If you can only afford one pair, get memory wire shears. These are designed to make clean cuts on tough memory wire, so can also be used for softer wires.

2. Chain-nose pliers (sometimes called needle-nose pliers) – Very versatile for picking up and grasping small items, bending eye pins, closing jumps rings, even closing crimp beads.

3. Round-nose pliers – Used for creating loops on beaded head and eye pins. Can also be used for winding your own jump rings and as the second pliers you’ll need for closing jump rings.

4. Optional pliers – Wire-looping pliers which have several graduated circumferences to allow you to form perfectly uniform jump rings and loops (in place of the round-nose pliers mentioned above). Crimping pliers which have little notches to allow you to both flatten a crimp bead and then bend it to form a rounded finished look (instead of the flat crimp you get using the chain-nose pliers).

As for materials, I recommend some assortment packs of beads in coordinating colors, some decorative metal spacers, seed beads in both silver and gold (These can serve as spacers and beautifully set off your other beads.), tube-shaped crimp beads (Buy the best you can find – these are what hold it all together!), head and eye pins.

Other than that, let your choice of project be your guide. You might want some silver or pewter charms. For earrings, you would need ear posts or wires or clip-on bases. For bracelets, you need memory wire or stretchy cord or beading wire and clasps. For necklaces, memory wire or beading wire, clasps and perhaps pendants.

A bead board is a good idea too. Its ruled tracks help you measure and lay out designs for bracelets and necklaces; as well as to corral the beads you are working with at a given time.

Deciding to Work at Home

I wish I could stay at home with my kids and work from home so I can be with my children and earn a living, but I don't know where to start."

If you've thought or even spoken those words, you're not alone. Many women get up early, get the kids dressed, drop them off at day care, drive in rush-hour traffic, and arrive at work exhausted, thinking, "There has to be a better way."

If this sounds familiar, I have just appointed myself the good news fairy. Yes, there is a better way—that is, if you really want it and are prepared for some hard work ahead. You'll be making some trades—some good (trading commuting for working in your pajamas) and some not so good (trading paid health insurance and retirement benefits for providing your own). Work-At-Home-Magazine.com isn't about wild dreams; it tells you truthfully how you can stay home with your kids and make some money while doing something you really enjoy.

"Women today are put into a difficult situation. We're made to feel we have to work, bring in that second income, and raise good, upstanding children. If we don't, we're failures. And when the family goes to hell, the mother takes the blame. Neighbors shake their heads and sigh, "She never spent any time with those kids or her husband. She was always working. No wonder that family is so screwed up."

If we do decide to stay home with our kids, we're blamed for wasting our education. "How hard can that be, really? She probably just sits in front of the television all day." If you stay at home, however, you're more than aware of all the responsibilities you have to juggle.

Choosing to work at home can be a tough financial decision. I love the Spanish proverb that says, "A rich child often sits in a poor mother's lap." Sometimes we lose sight of our priorities and forget where our true wealth lies. If you try to make everyone happy, you're going to come out on the losing end. Working at home is a perfect solution. You can stay home with your kids and do something for yourself, all at the same time.

Work at Home Income Opportunities

There are a number of reasons people want to work at home. Perhaps they're tired of the nine-to-five business routine and the time - and money - spent commuting to and from the office. Perhaps they're stay at home moms who want to supplement the family's income while still being available to the kids when they come home from school. Maybe they're retired, but are looking for some supplemental income. Whatever the reason one wants to work at home, the Internet is providing exponentially more income opportunities than the more traditional work-at-home choices.

Traditional network marketing or multilevel marketing involves direct sales of products. That means networking with friends and acquaintances and convincing them to open their homes - and their address books - in order for you to sell your products. Because most of these gatherings occur in the evening, direct sales can work at cross-purposes for those who want to work at home in order to spend more time with their families. Plus, to generate a significant income in direct sales, you not only have to sell product but you also have to sell the opportunity. In other words, you have to sign up others to become direct sellers.

The new economy - that is, the Internet economy - gives those who want to work at home income opportunities that allow them to spend as much or as little time on their computers as they wish and still generate revenue. Through Internet marketing and website promotion, people can generate a significant revenue stream very quickly. This can take the form of affiliate programs, self-replicating websites, online advertising, and web marketing.

Some of those who have started up an Internet business - not to sell a product or service, but simply to generate revenue from others' businesses and Internet advertising - have found that they have created an automatic money machine. They can work at home, marketing and advertising their own websites to others, and collect commissions in the process.

For those who want to work at home in an Internet business, it's important to affiliate with reputable companies. Look for a proven track record, and be wary of those that require a significant investment in order to take advantage of the income opportunities. It's helpful to look at all of the business opportunities that are available and talk to others who have tried them. When you find those that have provided a good return on the investment of time and money, and can verify their legitimacy, your dream of being able to work at home may very well come true.
